Computation
WHAT IS COMPUTATION?
Computational Mathematics (CM) is one of three special interests to students at the Department of Mathematics, Udayana University. CM was formed from the beginning of the program's establishment in 2001. For the period 2001 - 2010, subjects of CM aim to improve as well as prepare students so that after they have the competence as a programmer as a supporting ability for graduates. As a result of this policy, many graduates of the Mathematics study program are accepted to work in the Information and Technology department in the banking, finance, and tourism sectors. This fact then led to the formation of the Computer Science Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNUD, with some of the teaching staff in the Department of Mathematics moving as lecturers in the Computer Science Department. In 2010-2020, the learning process in CM is reoriented to prepare students and graduates to have core competencies in the field of soft computing. As a consequence of the raising of Big Data, the learning orientation in the last years has to be re-examined and aimed at equipping students and graduates in smart systems and machine learning.
