I Gede Surya Wirawan, Mathematics Study Program Student at Udayana University, Competing at ONMIPA-PT 2024 National level.

Denpasar, June 6, 2024 – I Gede Surya Wirawan, a student of the Mathematics Study Program class of 2021 at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, share the story of his journey in taking part in the 2024 National Olympiad at Higher Education Mathematics and Natural Sciences (ONMIPA-PT).

ONMIPA-PT is an annual competition that aims to develop student creativity and innovation in Mathematics and Science. This competition includes four areas: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. In his field of study, Gede participated in mathematics competitions.

Gede was successfully selected as a representative of Udayana University after taking part in an internal selection on October 4, 2023, held in the Bangsa room, Udayana University Rectorate Building. Apart from Gede, four other students also represent Udayana University in regional-level competitions in the field of Mathematics, namely Karolien (Mathematics Study Program), Galuh (Mathematics Study Program), Nadya (Informatics Study Program), and Ria (Animal Husbandry Study Program).

Before participating in the regional-level selection, they received regular guidance from a team of Mathematics supervisors, namely Kartika Sari, Luh Putu Ida Harini, and Putu Veri Swastika. This training focuses on material and practice questions from Algebraic Structure, Linear Algebra, Combinatorics, Real Analysis, and Complex Analysis.

Regional-level selection begins with a Technical Meeting on April 18, 2024, and Try Out on April 19, 2024. Regional-level selection tests are conducted online via Zoom Meetings on April 24 and 25, 2024. Participants from Udayana University take the test in the Bangsa room, University Rectorate Building Udayana.

The regional election results were announced on May 6, 2024, and Gede succeeded in qualifying for the national level. Apart from Gede, Amanda from the Pharmacy Study Program also succeeded in passing the Chemistry field. The final round will be held from 12 to May 17, 2024, at Hasanuddin University, Makassar.

While in Makassar, they stayed at the Sarison Hotel. The opening event occurred on May 13, 2024, at the Prof. Auditorium. Amiruddin, Hasanuddin University, followed by a Technical Meeting in the Field of Mathematics in the LPMPP Hall, Hasanuddin University. The final round test for Mathematics will be held on 14 and 15 May 2024 at the same place.

The closing and announcement of the winners were held on May 16, 2024. Ivan Hadinata from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) won the first gold medal in Mathematics, while the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) was crowned the 2024 ONMIPA-PT General Champion. Gede himself has not yet won a medal in this competition. They returned to Bali on May 17, 2024.

Gede hopes that Udayana University will continue to succeed in sending its representatives to the ONMIPA-PT national level in the future. "This experience is precious for me and my colleagues. We will continue to strive to provide the best," he said.
