International Guest Lecture: Prof. Sapna Ratan Shah Discusses AI and Computational Mathematics at Udayana University

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, held an international guest lecture on November 3, 2025, in the 1st-floor lecture room of the FMIPA Building. Officially opened by the Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Dra. Ni Luh Watiniasih, M.Sc., Ph.D., the event featured Prof. Sapna Ratan Shah, Ph.D., as the keynote speaker. This guest lecture reflects the faculty's commitment to enhancing students' academic insights through knowledge exchange with international experts in mathematics and technology.


Prof. Sapna Ratan Shah is an accomplished academic from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, who formerly served as Director of Research and Development and President of the JNUTF Mathematical Biology Lab. She is also a professor at the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, School of Computational & Integrative Sciences (SCIS), JNU. With expertise in Mathematical Biology and artificial intelligence, Prof. Shah has made significant contributions to interdisciplinary research that integrates mathematics, biology, and computational technology.


The lecture, titled "Computational Foundations and Artificial Intelligence: Challenges, Opportunities, and Future Directions," highlighted the importance of mathematical foundations in modern artificial intelligence development. Prof. Shah explained how principles of computational mathematics underpin AI advancements, along with the challenges and future opportunities in the field. Enthusiasm was evident from the active participation of Mathematics undergraduate students, as well as faculty members and researchers interested in fostering research collaborations with JNU.


This event is expected to open further collaboration opportunities between Universitas Udayana and Jawaharlal Nehru University, particularly in applied mathematics and artificial intelligence research. The presence of Prof. Sapna Ratan Shah, whose research focuses on Mathematical Biology, has inspired students to explore diverse careers in interdisciplinary fields that combine mathematics with future technologies.
