Strengthening Competence in the Big Data Era: Department of Mathematics, Udayana University Hosts Guest Lecture on Strategic Data Analysis
JIMBARAN – The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Udayana University successfully organized a guest lecture titled “Data Analytics for Strategic Decision Making: The Role of Data Analytics in the Modern Industrial World” on Friday, June 12th. The event, held at the Deanery Building, featured a prominent industry practitioner, Mr. Gde Palguna Reganata, S.Si., M.Si., as the keynote speaker.
During the session, the speaker emphasized the philosophy that “Data is the new oil.” In the midst of the digital transformation wave, data has evolved from mere rows of numbers into a crucial asset that determines the future direction of industries. The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the era of “BIG DATA” require future talents to maximize the use of technology.
Mr. Gde Palguna explained that career opportunities for Mathematics graduates are now broader and more promising than ever. A mathematician is no longer seen only as an academic but also as a reliable practitioner in various industrial sectors.
“As mathematicians, our future role is not just to model data, but to be able to explain the meaning and the story behind that data,” noted the moderator while summarizing the discussion. The ability for “data storytelling” combined with in-depth analysis is the primary key for companies to produce business decisions that are strategic, efficient, and yield real-world impact.
The enthusiasm of the participants was evident throughout the event. Students were encouraged to realize that technical mathematical skills, when paired with business understanding, create a significant competitive advantage in the global job market.
This guest lecture is expected to provide valuable insights for students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Udayana University, preparing them to become job-ready, adaptive talents capable of competing in the data-driven modern industrial era. The event concluded with a group photo session and a token of appreciation presented to the speaker.
